I don't know if everyone was aware of this guitar, but it's a replica of the one Ed used on the 1984 tour. Anyone ever played one? I haven't.

Haven't played it. Used to own a simialr Kramer back in the late 80s that was a pretty sweet guitar.

I don't place a lot of stock in the reviews on Harmony Central. But if you read enough of them on any product you start to see trends in opinons and can start sorting out the trolls.

On the 1984 there seems to be a fair concensus that the pickup is thin sounding. They also tend to say that it isn't set up very well.

I'd be interested to know how the neck feels. The EBMM EVH model neck is an exact replica of EVH's 5150 neck (right down to wear patterns) which is obviously the guitar that the 1984 is emulating.

Sounds to me like it isn't worth the price unless the single pickup/Floyd/hockystick headstock vibe is a value to you. Certainly it captures the vibe of that time which is a value on some level.

If this type of guitar is imortant to you, I'd say keep your eyes pealed for one of the original 80's Barrettas. With the angled pickup and the Rosewood fretboard (most had Rosewood) they aren't 100% accurate repros of the 5150 guitar but I have the feeling they're probably better guitars overall.

Hi there.

I recently bought a Kramer 1984 and i have to say that it's an amazing guitar! The neck is so familiar to the EBMM, very easy to play with low action.
I just striped it last week.
Here's a pic:

I have one as well - with a little set up it's one of the best guitars I've ever owned.

I personally am in love with the pickup as well. It's a little far from the strings from the factory which may be why people say it's thin sounding. After raising mine 1/8 - 1/4 inch it sound absolutely UNBELIEVABLE.

Well worth the price. I also hear that they are building a U.S. plant to start making them and the price is actually going to DROP $100 or so! Shocked
