I have a Charvel Model 4 (I think) and I would like to replace the neck single coli pup with a humbucker (single coil size) that is f-spaced and is very clean sounding. It also has to fit in a single coil cavity.
Any suggestions

But aren't they a high power pick-up for crunch tones Ned? I need a really clean punchy pup. Also, someone told me in order to install a Hot Rails he had to file, grind and re-wire the pick-up in order to fit it in as the base is sort of v-shaped. My cavity is a straight sided slot opening.

Yes Hot Rails are high gain - I couldn't get on the SD web site yesterday but today I found this:

SCR-1 Created by popular demand from players, Cool Rails? use the same twin coil design as our Hot Rails?, but are wound to produce a clear, bright, dynamic sound. Hotter and louder than both the Vintage Staggered (SSL-1) Hot Stack? (STK-S2) pickups, Cool Rails are for players who need a loud, punchy single coil sound for stage work. Cool Rails are great on their own and also make an excellent match on a guitar with a hot humbucker in the bridge position.
Available in black or white
Four conductor cable

SD Cool Rails

I used a Hot Rail in my old Jap Strat and it fit fine without and modifications.
